WINE FOR LUNCH?

It’s a gorgeous New York City summer day. The sun is shining, the sidewalk is glistening and the kids are bathed. Okay, thats not exactly what happened. It was a gorgeous day, and the sun was shining but the three kids whined, whined and whined through the streets of Manhattan. I can’t recall if they were bathed or not, all I can recall are melt downs, lots of  yelling (moi) and multiple near misses of scooters running into poor pedestrians.

We seek solace inside a SOHO restaurant for lunch. My friend is visibly shaken by the massive effort it has taken to get all the kids around town. I suggest wine, she declines. I lean over and say, “YOU need some wine”, with a little giggle, she gets it. She needs wine. She is not used to the craziness of three kids. We are plain outnumbered.  Lets be honest, it’s a mothers dream to have wine with lunch (without the WHINE), but it’s not the norm. I decline daily, I have to keep on my toes, alert, aware and generally keep my kids alive. But, some days a MOTHER needs WINE.

So what does this mom drink on a hot August afternoon in the city with three kids? I need cold, I need crisp, I need “light” (obviously), and I don’t care to waste this afternoon adventure on a glass of anything less than the best. With my finger in the air like a practiced New Yorker I order three Shirley Temples (why should I have all the fun) accompanied by a glass of Sancerre. One of my FAV’s is La Croix du Roy Lucien Crochet Sancerre, its from Loire Valley and is great on its own or with food.  Let me know what you like to drink!
