IFAVINE... I THINK I LOVE YOU!
My hubby and I have a rule. Ok, I have a rule: no appliances as gifts. If you give me a blender for my birthday, it’s going back. The kids on the other hand will take anything. An empty box? Awesome! Tic-Tacs? Brilliant. Kids love gadgets, too. They probably learn it from their parents. Remember the first kid? I bought everything: a pacifier holder, a sippy-cup travel holder, a snack holder, a shopping basket germ guard (that was comical since I lived NYC and there were no grocery carts but, just in case). You know, gadgets galore. I kinda grew out of it after three kids, I took the opposite approach: shoes? Are they necessary? A jacket–you don’t need one, let’s go. But I might have turned a new leaf on Monday. . .
We were sitting at the wine bar overlooking central park, focussing on a contraption that resembles a coffee percolator. Not that I would understand what that is at all, after three kids, I not only hover by the coffee machine, I’ve been known to lay on it. I have no shame. This is better than coffee, my friends. . . It’s wine. Did you hear me?.
iFavine is a new “wine gadget” called isommelier, the smart decanter. The L’Union de la Sommelierie Francaise, Alain Reynaud, and Alexandre Morin have endorsed iFavine. Need I say more?
My personal tasting of this decanter consisted of a bottle of Barolo. “Glass A” before the decanter and the “glass B” after two minutes in the iFavine.
I was absolutely speechless, which if you’re keeping track, I am never speechless.
Basically the iFavine can take the one to four-hour descanting time to under two minutes (and up to ten, if necessary), all controlled by the gadget and your phone (wine app). This decants the wine with purified oxygen that is extracted from the surrounding air. It’s a completely natural process and uses no chemicals. By using purified oxygen, it removes carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide which is harmful to wine.
On first taste that Barolo was thin and slightly astringent it definitely needed to breathe, but after two minutes in the iFavine it became a classic Barolo, smooth, rounded with fruit combined with savory notes. I looked like a cartoon, sniffing between the two glass because I was again speechless.
This product is in pre-release, if you are interested, please contact julee.resendez@ifavine.com and mention winenotwhine sent you. It also comes in two colors and different size decanters.
