HALLOWEEN CRAZED...
Let’s be honest.
Who hasn’t secretly enjoyed the kids stash of Halloween candy. A midnight snack? HELLO?Yes, please!
My kids might be catching on. I may or may not have directed the blame towards my three year old son last year. Hey, It was plausible? The best part, pairing a little bit of vino with your late night snacking! It’s not like I’m sleeping at night anyway! So why not break into some candy while your sipping some vino.
One of my favorite wine apps, Vivino has released its second annual candy and wine match maker. https://www.vivino.com/
Here are a few of my FAV pairings:
REESE’S
Merlot (new world)
Barnett Vineyards, California
The soft ripe fruit is a perfect compliment for chocolate and peanut butter
SNICKERS
Ribera del duero, Tempranillo grape (Spanish wine) or Malbec
Perfect compliment to the carmel and nut aspect of the candy.. Roasted nuts and snickers will enhance the earthiness of the Tempranillo grape.
HERSHEY KISSES & CHOCOLATE
Australian Shiraz, The Guilty
Perfect richness to match an american classic, especially the dark chocolate
Syrah (California)
Euclid, winemaker: Mike Farmer
CANDY APPLE
Bellongrade Rueda White Wine (Spanish)
A perfectly rustic, yet crisp wine to enjoy alongside a classic autumn treat. The Verdejo grape can mirror taste flavors of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay but with a slightly more rich taste and slightly more depth which makes for an amazing wine for an even better price.
PEANUT M&Ms
South African Chardonnay
Hamilton Russell
This chardonnay has an extra bite compared to the usual buttery or oaked Chardonnay’s. The roasted peanuts can match the slightly roasted flavor profile of this wine
TWIZZLERS
Pinot Noir, California or Oregon
Pairs perfectly with the chewy and mildly sweet Twizzlers. Bite off the ends and feel like a kid again with your artisanal Twizzler straw
